Yeah, yeah, I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but I usually can't help it. I love me an eye catching, attention grabbing book cover. I also think covers are so important when it comes to selling books, especially if you don't already have an established readership. With that in mind I thought that if I came across any covers I really loved I could share them here and you can let me know if you agree. Which brings us to...
So the cover of Chopsticks (by Jessica Anthony and Rodrigo Corral)? Hooked. Me. Immediately. I think it's the fonts that really sold me. Here's the summary from Goodreads:
After her mother died, Glory retreated into herself and her music. Her single father raised her as a piano prodigy, with a rigid schedule and the goal of playing sold-out shows across the globe. Now, as a teenager, Glory has disappeared. As we flash back to the events leading up to her disappearance, we see a girl on the precipice of disaster. Brilliant and lonely, Glory is drawn to an artistic new boy, Frank, who moves in next door. The farther she falls, the deeper she spirals into madness. Before long, Glory is unable to play anything but the song "Chopsticks."Apparently the story is kind of multimedia, told through words, pictures, YouTube links, etc. and if the reviews I've read are any indication, it also leaves the reader with a lot of questions. I'd be interested to know your opinion if you've read this book or whether you plan to?
But nothing is what it seems, and Glory's reality is not reality at all. In this stunningly moving novel told in photographs, pictures, and words, it's up to the reader to decide what is real, what is imagined, and what has been madness all along....

I wasn't big on it, but I know I'm pretty alone in that opinion.
ReplyDeleteI'm debating whether or not to delve in. Doesn't seem like it would be 100% my kind of read.
Deletewhoa, that sounds crazy. i may check it out, but i tend to stick to "normal" text usually

Haha I'm going to go with totally confusing based on some of the reviews I read :)
DeleteOhh, i'm guilty of judging a book by its cover too. but with this book, i'm more drawn to the name and how it doesn't fit with the cover. I'm intrigued.
ReplyDeleteTamra, the synopsis I read said the main character is a piano player, so I think that's how it fits :)
DeleteBut I guess that's the power of a great cover...gets you interested, gets you asking questions.
I haven't read it, but I agree, the cover is just gorgeous! Love!

ReplyDeleteIf I read it I'll definitely be posting about it :)
DeleteI love the cover too! You're right about it being enticing! But, you lost me on multimedia and left with a lot of questions... lol
ReplyDeleteHaha I'm not sure I have any of the answers!
DeleteSounds really interesting!
ReplyDeleteI'll let you know if I end up reading it :)
DeleteHaven't heard much about this one but the cover is really cute! I can't help but judge a book by it's cover sometimes lol ;) Great choice! Love the title font!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much Daisy!! Your blog is wonderful as well.
DeleteI love this cover as well. And the book itself is gorgeous, I saw it at the store. It's oversize and well, perfect. I like the 70's 80's look and agree the font is great! I haven't read it though and honestly I'm not sure it's one I would enjoy. I think I'll have to pick it up at the store and give it a look through.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by today!
